Pacific Palisades, which after the January 7 Palisades Fire, initially had law enforcement aid from the National Guard, State Highway Patrol after the Palisades Fire. The National Guard left when the town reopened to everyone in June (prior to that only residents were allowed).
L.A. Mayor Karen Bass initially sent a security company Absolute International Security, to aid with crime prevention, but because of lack of money that company was pulled at the beginning of September.
Now, the town’s safety falls solely to the Los Angeles Police Department, with CHP on Pacific Coast Highway.
Then, Senior Lead Officer Brian Espin wrote “I encourage everyone to continue to check on their property or have a security company monitor it for you.”
In his September 18 update, he wrote that crime had gone up a bit with some thefts, some stolen license plates and packages.
“I recommend trying to park your vehicle in a well-lit spot and getting a set of lock-tight screws available on Amazon specifically for license plates,” Espin said.
To prevent package thefts, he offered the following tips: 1) give instructions to the delivery person to hide the package so it’s not visible on the porch or walkway. 2) have a neighbor retrieve your package if you are not going to be home for an extended period of time. 3) have your package delivered to a drop box, i.e. amazon store or equivalent locker.
For those people who have not yet returned to standing homes, he said “Check your property often (or have someone check it for you), to prevent squatters or someone frequently entering your property.”
People who are under construction should remind crews to secure tools and equipment, which is a target for thieves. “Have construction crews GPS tag all high-end equipment,” he said and added, “Place and secure tools and equipment in well-lit areas of the property and monitored by security cameras.”
He suggested that if residents are able they should have some sort of security system that will give instant notification if someone is on your property. “This helps us (LAPD), if you can see that someone is in your house and can give a good description of the suspects,” Espin said. “It will bump our response up to a priority call instead of a non-priority (alarm only).”
He also said if you have security cameras on your property, have one or more cameras angled towards the street or sidewalk. “Investigators can back track areas where people are seen coming from based on video footage,” Espin said, and added those cameras might show vehicles or other suspects that will aid in the investigation.

You would think we all had enough. Nope, I saw the endorsements by the Pacific Palisades Democratic club and everyone’s going to vote for the same people who destroyed our town and half of Malibu. I don’t get it.
They destroyed where you lived, changed your life but you’re still going to vote them back into office? Why?
Because of the fire, I’ve gone to all sorts of new towns in California and they all look the same, completely run down with massive freeway projects that have been going on for decades in the same spots, closed stores, and unhoused. Why are you still voting for this?
Why do you dislike yourself so much, we deserve better.
Do we still need to fill out a form allowing the police to enter our building?
Yes.
