CVS reopened today, August 15, after being closed since January 7. The interior is open and bright. The cement floors have been polished, and the ceilings have been replaced. The walls were taken to the studs and replaced.
Over the last month all shelving was replaced, and the entire store has been restocked, and rearranged. And good news for people who have moved back, the pharmacy is open. There are new shopping baskets, which can be carried or pulled.
The grocery store area has been expanded a bit, and it is possible to buy some staples, such as rice, pasta, flour and sugar, which is important since there is no grocery store currently operating in the village. Already, looking to the future, Halloween items are on the shelves. Check out has been reconfigured, but the four self-checkout islands are still available.
To be perfectly truthful, even though this editor is living in an apartment in Marina del Rey, I will probably be making all my drugstore purchases here. It is worth the drive up – clean, roomy and everything can easily be found.
I also ran into two people I knew and had a quick chat with Lori Kupfer and Kathrin Werner, who have moved back.
PIT STOP:
The first stop this afternoon was at the car wash, the Palisades PitStop, which reopened at the beginning of July. Owner Kevin Miller stopped by and said “we survived Covid together and now this.” He said his workers had been out for about six months and were glad to be back.
The workers needed a trophy for cleaning a car that had not had a wash or vacuum since January. One can go online (https://www.palisadespitstop.com) to book a time and there are slots from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Call (310) 573-9274. The business is located behind the Palisades Garden Café and has to be accessed from Sunset Boulevard, the alley off La Cruz is temporarily closed.
NAIL SPA:
In the space that housed Ruby’s Nails, people were working on the floors and the chairs – does that mean a nail space might be opening soon? Please say “yes.”
PLAYGROUND AND BOCCE:
A couple had just finished playing a game of bocce at the park. The man asked do you want to know who won? “Who won?” I asked. “She always wins,” he said.
The landscaping around the bocce courts is being redone and Bocce Guru Jimmy Dunne had told me he hopes to have a fall bocce league underway in September.
The playground surprisingly had several kids playing and the exercise space behind it, which had been redone, had several children playing there.
TENNIS COURTS:
The tennis courts were tested and only the lower two 7 and 8 tested for a small amount of asbestos. DWP had parked heavy machinery on courts 5 and 6, which wrecked those courts, but had promised to fix them.
The upper four courts were fine, and people have been playing on them for six weeks. They have been washed off at least twice.
Today, when CTN stopped by, a worker said he had been directed to place signs “Courts are Closed” on the top four courts.
If there is an issue with the four courts, why were people allowed to play and if there is no issue, why can’t the high school team play on them? As soon as I have clarification from Recreation and Parks, I’ll update this story.

People have been playing on the upper tennis courts, 1, 2, 3 and 4, for the past six weeks. They are in good shape.

So strange- today we stopped off at the upper courts and my kids played for a while. Those courts had just been washed down on Tuesday…. No reason without explanation for them to be closed so thank you for following up!
