Violence in the Canyon and Canyon Adjacent

STOLEN GOODS, SMASHED FURNITURE

The State Beach Liquor Store, located at 14801 Pacific Coast Highway (at Entrada Drive), in Pacific Palisades was the site of shoplifting and destruction July 17.

Around 8 p.m., the surveillance camera captured a woman shoplifting merchandize and, on her way out of the store, she smashed a glass counter. A male was outside in a car waiting for her.

Canyon resident Sharon Kilbride reported that neighbors reported they couple came into their yard later and broke a bunch of furniture. “This is insane,” Kilbride said.

NAKED WOMAN BITES ANOTHER

Around 3 p.m. today, a naked woman was running around Palisades Park in Santa Monica. The woman chased an older woman, threw her on the ground and bit her. Kilbride, who is known in the Canyon for her work with the Palisades Homeless Task Force on Homelessness and works directly with LAPD and social workers was called to the scene by another Canyon resident because police had been called, but had not yet arrived.

Shortly after Kilbride arrived, the police came on the scene and detained the naked woman. Kilbride told police that she has never seen this homeless person in the area but speculated afterwards it could have been a combination of drugs and mental illness.

“I felt so sorry for the older lady, she was just traumatized,” Kilbride said.

The woman who assaulted the elderly lady lived in her car along PCH @Coastline for years. We had to drive our young children past her daily, while she paraded herself around naked, advertising her “services.” Bring back polite, civilized society. Individuals suffering with mental illness should have a safe and constructive place to be treated, while civilians stay protected.

I think it is time to change course. We are making our residential neighborhoods unlivable. This does not occur in a civilized society. This lady needs to be sent away for good , and Nathan Hochmann, where are you??
Homeless animals that attack and traumatize our elderly should have the book thrown at them.
Throw the damn book. Enough of this already.

I’m a Canyon resident. I share the community’s grave concerns about the increase in crime in our neighborhood. I also value and am grateful for the community service that this newsletter provides.

That said, I would like to suggest in the strongest possible terms that the photo of the woman in this article be removed from this site. I understand the level of fear and distress that she’s caused. But I don’t believe that justifies showing an obviously mentally ill person in the most vulnerable of lights in this public record.

We absolutely have the right to protect ourselves and our community – and share important information about the threats to both. But I think it’s equally crucial that we maintain some compassion while doing so.

    Sincerely,
    Susannah Grant

    Susannah,

I would think of it as, if you see this woman and she seems to be acting erratically, you can move out of her radar–The photo is not to punish the woman, but to allow others to apply caution. Think of the woman who bit an elderly woman in Pacific Park–had this woman known, she could have avoided the trauma she is now suffering.

    Sue –
Thanks for your response. The problem I have with the photo is not identifying her, but exposing her, nude, on the internet. Maybe the solution is to show her face but crop or obscure her body.

    Susannah,

Someone had sent the entire photo of her nude, I cut it at the waist.
