Immediately after the Palisades Fire, checkpoints at Sunset and Chautauqua went into place to keep out looters and looky-loos. Residents were allowed in with a pass, as were the companies aiding the Army Corp of Engineers with debris removal.
Although there was no official notice from the Mayor’s office, on Friday, afternoon, June 13, it was announced through several news sources that the checkpoints would cease at 6 a.m. on Saturday, June 14. Originally, police were supposed to stay at those sites into July, but the massive immigration protests around the city, necessitated those officers be used downtown and other areas.
To the residents who still have homes standing and you’re not living in them, this is important to make sure you have security in place.
Commander Jonathan Tom wrote a letter to the community (below) about transitioning to a different policing model. LAPD also asked the community for feedback if the plan is working or not.
Commander Tom was in the Palisades at the Village Green early on Saturday morning to ensure officers were aware of the plan.
