The saying “the show must go on” regardless of what happens, takes on a new meaning when Palisades Charter High School Spring musical, Legally Blonde, opens Thursday, March 27.
The school’s award-winning cast had been slated to start rehearsing the musical when school resumed in January after winter break.
Then the January 7 Palisades Fire wiped out the town and part of the high school, closing both. To continue with the production, directors/teachers Cherie and Monique Smith, not only had to find a place to hold rehearsals, but a venue for the musical.
Shows will take place at the Humanities Center on the Santa Monica High School campus, 601 Pico Blvd. Shows are March 27,28,29 and April 3,4,5 at 7 p.m. There will be matinees at 2 p.m. on Saturdays March 29 and April 5.
The caliber of talent, singing and dancing, at this public high school is exceptional and many students go to top colleges before finding jobs in the entertainment industry.
This musical is based on the movie, Legally Blonde, and follows the transformation of Elle Woods as she tackles stereotypes and scandal in pursuit of her dreams.
Elle Woods appears to have it all. Her life is turned upside down when her boyfriend Warner dumps her so he can attend Harvard Law. Determined to get him back, Elle ingeniously charms her way into the prestigious law school. While there, she struggles with peers, professors and her ex. With the support of some new friends, though, Elle quickly realizes her potential and sets out to prove herself to the world.
