Yet, another honor for Conan O’Brien!
The Riviera resident has been chosen for the Television Academy Hall of Fame. He’s one of six new honorees who’ll be inducted in August.
The TV Academy selects those for the Hall of Fame “who have made outstanding contributions in the arts, sciences or management of television over a lifetime career or via singular achievements.”
Along with O’Brien, new Hall of Famers are actress Viola Davis, the late producer of TV specials and live events, Don Mischer, writer/director/producer Ryan Murphy, composer Mike Post and actor and Brentwood resident Henry Winkler.
In announcing O’Brien’s selection, the Academy noted he is a writer, producer and comedian “who’s had a 28-year career as a late-night host, one of the longest tenures in late-night history, concluding with an 11-year run with Conan on TBS.” And he’s won five Emmy Awards.
This seems to be O’Brien’s year. In March, he hosted the Oscars. He got such good reviews and reaction that the Motion Picture Academy is bringing him back to host next year’s Oscars.
This past April, O’Brien received the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor. The ceremony has been edited into a special that’s available to watch on Netflix. The second season of his travel series, Conan O’Brien Must Go, is on Max. His podcast, Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend, is continuing.
But maybe most important this year is that his house survived the January fire. Back then he posted a photo on Instagram of himself with firefighters from the Redondo Beach Fire Department who had been working in his neighborhood.
The Hall of Fame induction is set for August 16 during a new event created by the TV Academy. It’s called Televerse — a festival of “all things TV” for both the entertainment industry and the public. It’ll be at LA LIVE in downtown. The Hall of Fame ceremony will require a separate ticket from the festival. Go to www.Televerse.com.
The TV Academy’s Hall of Fame began in 1984. Palisadians who’ve been honored include Steven Bochco, Carroll O’Connor, David E. Kelley, Chuck Lorre, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Rita Moreno, Joan Rivers, Rod Serling and Vivian Vance. And now, Conan O’Brien.
